Recognizing the short film as a platform for creative experimentation, while also acting as a gateway for filmmakers and production companies seeking national and international exposure, this discussion delves into the journeys of independent short films. By analyzing the experiences of production companies that have embraced the short film format, the panel will also highlight the vital role of funding in the development and growth of small-scale studios.

Artur Ianckievicz

Artur Ianckievicz has been a member of Kinoarte (the Film Institute of Londrina) since 2006. He serves as the Curator and Program Coordinator of the Kinoarte Film Festival, the most traditional film festival in the state of Paraná, for the past ten years. He has directed the short films "Sylvia" (2013), "Senhora L" (2016), and "Cleo, A Rainha Negra das Passarelas" (2019). Additionally, he is currently involved as a screenwriter for the series "Caravelle 114", in production.

Larissa Nepomuceno

Larissa Nepomuceno is a researcher, documentary filmmaker, and holds a Master's degree in Education. She is also a partner at Fala Filmes, a film production company based in Curitiba. Her films explore themes of deaf culture and the role of Black women in society. She has directed documentaries such as "Megg - A Margem Que Migra Para o Centro" (2018) (featured in the 22nd Tiradentes Film Festival), "Seremos Ouvidas" (2020) (ranked among the top 10 Brazilian audience favorites at the 32nd Curta Kinoforum), and "Emerenciana" (2023) (part of the 18th Fest Aruanda). Her latest documentary, "Na Pele", is currently in post-production. Larissa has also worked as an assistant director on the feature film "Nem Toda História de Amor Acaba em Morte", directed by Bruno Costa, in post-production, marking the first Brazilian feature film with a deaf protagonist. She is a member of the "Untold Black Narratives" project, developed by Warner Brazil in partnership with WIP Ventures (2024).

Mano Cappu

Born in Curitiba, Brazil, Mano Cappu is a filmmaker, rapper, and co-founder of Cwblack. He won the Prix Courtoujours award for his short film "Bença" at the 36th edition of the Cinélatino Festival in Toulouse, France. Additionally, he is recognized as a talent by the Projeto Paradiso Network. In 2011, he was wrongfully imprisoned for 18 months. Now acquitted, he shares his experience of incarceration through his short films "Bença" and "Quando Eu For Grande?". Currently, he is in the developmental phase of his feature film "X23" and the series "Labirinto".

Ribamar Nascimento

Ribamar Nascimento is a director, screenwriter, and film producer with over 10 years of experience in the film industry in Paraná. He was awarded Best Debut Director at the 2023 Pupila Film Festival. Ribamar has written and directed the feature film "A Cápsula" (2024) and the science fiction short pilot "Ressurgido" (2022). Additionally, he has served as a municipal culture advisor, founded and chaired an association of film professionals in the city, and is currently leading projects such as "O Salto para a Vida", a feature film based on the homonymous book by journalist Célia Valente, published by FTD, which tells the story of a World War II survivor. He is also the showrunner for the series "Ressurgido" (currently in development) and the producer and director of the short film "Rastro Neural", funded under the Paulo Gustavo Law in Maringá.
