Speakers

Camila Macedo

Camila Macedo is actively involved in research, curation, and filmmaking, with a primary focus on the intersections between art, education, and gender and sexuality studies. She holds a PhD and master's degree in Education from UFPR, and a bachelor's degree in Film and Video from Unespar. She has worked on the programming teams of various exhibitions and festivals, including the Brasilia Film Festival (2022), Cinefantasy (2021), and FIDÉ Brazil (2022), among others. Since 2018, she has been a member of the curatorial team at Olhar de Cinema.

Eduardo Valente

Filmmaker, critic, and programmer. Valente won the First Prize of the Cinefondation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002 with his short film "Um Sol Alaranjado". He has directed two other short films and a feature film, all screened at Cannes among other festivals. He served as the international director of Ancine from 2011 to 2016. With a background in film programming across diverse film festivals, he has been an integral part of the programming team at Olhar de Cinema since 2016, as well as the Brazilian delegate for the Berlin Film Festival. Since 2018, he has worked as an editing consultant, having collaborated on over 50 feature films.

Carla Italiano

Carla Italiano is a researcher and curator, currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Communication at UFMG, with a bachelor’s degree in Film Studies from UFSC. She is part of the team behind festivals such as Olhar de Cinema, FENDA – Experimental Festival of Film Arts, and the organization of forumdoc.bh – Documentary and Ethnographic Film Festival. Her curatorial experience extends to diverse exhibitions, including “Magical Women: Reinventions of the Witch in Cinema” (CCBB 2024, 2022), “El Camino – Travel Cinema from South America” (2023), and “Helena Solberg Retrospective” (2018). Originally from Recife, she currently resides in Belo Horizonte.

Gabriel Borges

Gabriel Borges, a native of Ponta Grossa, is a curator, film club enthusiast, editor, and filmmaker. With a master's degree in Film and Video Arts from the State University of Paraná, Gabriel is actively engaged in film production, editing, and the organization and programming of film clubs and festivals. His contributions span events such as the IV Griot - Contemporary Black Cinema Festival, the Metrô - Brazilian University Film Festival, and the São Bernardo Film Club.

Kariny Martins

Curator, researcher, and screenwriter. She is a partner at Cartografia Filmes and screenwriter at TV Globo. With a master's degree in Film and Video Arts from the State University of Paraná and currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Communication at the Federal Fluminense University, her research centers on curation. She authored the book "Speculative Fiction in Brazilian Black Cinema – Afrofuturist Aesthetics in Short Films" (O Quadro, 2023).

Giulia Maria

Originally from Mato Grosso, Giulia Maria Roberta is a film student at Unespar/FAP in Curitiba. She is a curator, programmer, and film club enthusiast, member of the Black collective Cine Adélia and CineFAP. Giulia is also involved in filmmaking, predominantly as a director, screenwriter, and member of the art department.

Carol Almeida

Carol Almeida is a researcher, professor, and film curator. She holds a Ph.D. from the postgraduate program in Communication at UFPE, with research focused on contemporary Brazilian cinema. In addition to her role in the curatorial team at the Olhar de Cinema/Curitiba Film Festival, she also contributes to the curatorial teams of the Arab Women Film Festival and Mostra que Desejo. Furthermore, she has been involved in the programming teams of festivals such as Recifest, the queer film festival of Recife, and For Rainbow, the queer film festival in Fortaleza.
