Un Film Dramatique asks to whom cinema belongs. It does so through scenes of the first class enrolled at the recently built Collège Dora Maar, in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis, whose students use cameras to discuss how to represent the world surrounding them and how they would like for that world to be. Baudelaire worked on commission for four years (beginning in 2015) with the middle schoolers, several of whom come from immigrant families and see France with outsiders’ eyes. With the passing of time comes a building of trust from co-authorship, a learning process, and a provisional social model. (A. C)
