Synopsis
The category is: ballroom cinema. This vibrant documentary by Juru and Vitã guides us through the vibrant culture of Rio de Janeiro’s Houses, which uniquely blend foreign influences with distinctly Brazilian elements to construct a universe where dance, music, fashion, and performance intertwine, drawing from the experiences of marginalized queer and racialized communities. A tapestry of voices, bodies, movements, poses, and personalities unfolds, revealing that amidst the ballroom scene and the intimate lives of some of its important figures, the scene is truly “burning”.
