Synopsis
From the outset of the film, we are literally invited to hit the road alongside historian Mayara, who guides us to the roots of her research on Maria Odília Teixeira, Brazil’s first Black female physician. Along this journey, we gradually grasp the striking parallels between the life trajectories of these two women, despite the century that separates them in Brazilian history. Mariana Jaspe eschews a rigid documentary format, allowing the film to evolve organically as these intertwined narratives unfold. (E.V.)
