Orélie-Antoine de Tounens was a 19th-century French lawyer and explorer who strove to conquer Patagonia. His adventures are rendered in imaginative high style by the Chilean-American Niles Atallah. The king encounters floating beings and enemies wearing oversized masks as he wanders through spaces photographed with once-buried celluloid stock. This oft-hallucinatory film shows history rupturing and erupting throughout a path towards transcendence.
