“Hema Hema: sing me a song while I wait” is a vibrant musical made with overflowing love and passion. Director Khyentse Norbu’s fourth feature is filmed in the jungles of his native Bhutan with myriad masked actors assaying characters who gather for roughly a fortnight of reverie. The film’s folklore-and-Buddhist-tradition-inspired, yet firmly contemporary plot proceeds with the force and lightness of a well-told myth. Its images reach the sublime.

Khyentse Norbu Rimpoche

Born in 1961, Khyentse Norbu had his academic pursuit in USA, studying politics and filmmaking. He was consultant of Bertolucci during the shooting of “Little Buddha”. In 1999, Norbu made his directorial debut, “The Cup”.
