“Hema Hema: sing me a song while I wait” is a vibrant musical made with overflowing love and passion. Director Khyentse Norbu’s fourth feature is filmed in the jungles of his native Bhutan with myriad masked actors assaying characters who gather for roughly a fortnight of reverie. The film’s folklore-and-Buddhist-tradition-inspired, yet firmly contemporary plot proceeds with the force and lightness of a well-told myth. Its images reach the sublime.
