René Frölke makes joyfully playful films about camaraderie. His new documentary follows a 90-year-old exuberant northern German farmer named Willi in black-and-white and color images, filmed in Super-8 and in 16mm, that convey the physical textures with which the man comes into daily contact. Frölke’s longtime producer Ann Carolin Renninger assumes co-directorship and becomes a character in a way that helps give a sense of a small community.
