Tunisia-born filmmaker Raja Amari finds a tiny giant in the figure of Samia, a young illegal immigrant in search of work for herself after having quite literally washed up in France. The girl is played amazingly by Sarra Hannachi, who brings an animalistic sense of self-protection to the role along with a human vulnerability. Like any strong neorealist film, “Foreign body” turns politics and calls for social change into flesh and blood.
