From the Mexican director Andres Padilla Domene, “Ciudad Maya” is a documentary flirting with science fiction as it portrays the Mayan identity of an urban group of youths in the city of Merida, Mexico. The film reflects upon the contradictions between Maya social imaginary, the invisibility of a people, and the transformation and resistance of a culture subjected to predatory contemporary commercial exploitation.
