Programming Team

We present the programming team that is already working on the selection of #6olhardecinema’s movies. With Antônio Junior as Programming Director, the feature film programming team has Aaron Cutler and Eduardo Valente (foreign films). In the short films, Marisa Merlo coordinates the programming and counts on Carla Italiano and Carol Almeida as part of the team.

Carla Italiano
Master in Social Communication from UFMG with a degree in Cinema from UFSC. She was curator of the retrospective Jonas Mekas (forumdoc.bh.2013) and  Politics and Word in the contemporary documentary (Sesc Palladium), besides integrating the selection committees of the festivals FestCurtas BH and Semana dos Realizadores. Since 2011 she has been a member of the Quintal Filmes, in which she organizes the forumdoc.bh – Documentary and Ethnographic Film Festival of Belo Horizonte.

Antônio Junior
Graduated in Social Communication and Cinema and Video, with a specialization in Communication and Culture, he is a founding member of the Olhar de Cinema – IFF and since then he has been the festival’s  General Director and Programming Director. He is a partner of the production company Grafo Audiovisual, wich produced the feature film To My Beloved (San Sebastian, Brasília, Montreal) and the short films Quadrangle (Cannes), Tarantula (Venice) and The Factory (The Oscar shortlist.)

Carol Almeida
Cultural journalist, film critic and currently a PhD student in the postgraduate program in Communication at the Federal University of Pernambuco, focusing on Cinema and Cities. She publishes in the site www.foradequadro.com and writes sporadically about Cinema for several media in Brazil.

Aaron Cutler
American curator and film critic, based in São Paulo since 2010. Worked between 2012 and 2014 as programming assistant at the São Paulo International Film Festival. He curated retrospectives of the filmmakers Lav Diaz (São Paulo IFF, 2013) and Kira Muratova (INDIE Festival, 2015). Together with Mariana Shellard, he curated retrospectives of the filmmakers Heinz Emigholz (2015) and Thom Andersen (2016), both for the São Paulo Cultural Center and the Moreira Salles Institute – Rio de Janeiro

Marisa Merlo
Graduated in cinema by Unespar/FAP. Between 2008 and 2016 she was a partner of Grafo Audiovisual, and currently owns Macuriá Produções Miúdas. As an executive producer, she made several short films and feature films, among them  To my Beloved (2015). She is the idealizer and was director of the Olhar de Cinema  – IFF between 2012 and 2016, where she has been programmer and producer since 2012. As Programmer / curator, she was also a member of the selection team for short films and medium-length films at the Brasilia Festival (2016) and was one of the curators of the  CachoeiraDoc (2016) and Semana d_s Realizador_s (2016).

Eduardo Valente
Filmmaker, critic and curator of cinema, graduated in cinema by UFF, with master’s degree at USP. He directed three short films and one feature film, all shown  at the Cannes Film Festival, among others. He was editor of the  magazines  Contracampo (1998-2005) and Cinética (2006-2011). Founder of the Semana dos Realizadores (2009). Between 2011 and 2016 he worked as  International Advisor to ANCINE. He is currently curator of the Brasilia Festival, as well as being a delegate for Brazil at the Berlin Festival.
