Saturday, June 10th marks the arrival of the Thai filmmaker Anocha Suwichakornpong in Olhar de Cinema, together with screenings of her films in the festival’s Focus section. In the brief statement below, Anocha’s friend and collaborator, the filmmaker Visra Vichit-Vadakan, describes the experience of working with her. Visra is the lead actress in Anocha’s most recent feature film, By the Time It Gets Dark (2016), and co-founded with Anocha the new company Purin Pictures (https://www.purinpictures.org).
Visra Vichit-Vadakan: It is rare to find a film director with strong vision and clarity coupled with a quiet sensibility and curiosity in their work. Anocha embodies these qualities in her films and in the way she approaches her subjects. I have been blessed to experience her in her element – contemplative, imaginative, and humorous. She weaves tapestries of images and characters that hold us close and linger with us long after the last frame has left our eyes.
